Portuguese police received the "Dutch Maps"

(Click on the map to enlarge)

The Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf sent, to Portuguese Police, two maps the newspaper received, allegedly with the location of the body of Madeleine, but the indications are “vague”, according to the on line news site Observatório do Algarve. One of the maps points to the area of Odeáxere, a small village some 12 miles from Lagos. De Telegraaf , on today's edition, admits that the person who sent the letter may be the same that, last year, sent also a letter with the location of the bodies of two young Belgians girls, Stacy e Nathalie, seven and ten years old. The letter refers that the body is “on a road to North, under some bushes and stones, about 12 miles from Praia da Luz.

Mr Reis
Is it possible from the geography of the area mentioned in this tip-off letter that it is so vague for the police to NOT start searching. We all deparately want an outcome and perhaps this one, a bodty, is not the ideal outcome - however it will give the family a closure. Is the town mentioned so bug that this road and location would be so difficult to work out, or are the police stalling? Hope you are OK. Thanks, Rachel

I hope it is a false trail. :(

I dont believe that the person who sent the letter is a medium, he is involved in this terrible case, for shure and also in the case last year in belgisch where two Belgian girls brutally killed. And that would mean that this trail and the whole Madeleine case will end in an great tragedy. Martin Brunt from Sky News wrote today "Don't know how the McCanns are coping" and thats the same what i think about this. I hope the McCanns can mobilize all their strength to go through the next days and i also hope the P.J. will find this "perverted creature" who did all the terrible things to little madeleine.

Tom

Looking forward to some of Paulo's insights on this one.

Mr Anonymous:

Police has to check every information. It's normal procedure. If the indication is vague, it will take more time. But there are some details that help. First, the person who did it (if it is truth) must have used a car. So, it's questions of checking near all the roads in the area. And think like a criminal, wich something Police does. Look for a spot where a parked car is not visible from any house near by, look for an area between two small hills, out of the sight of people driving by those secondary roads, and so on. I'm a little bit pessimist. There is a importante information I don't know. The letter about the two belgian girls had a map, printed from a specific site. Was this information available to the public - the name of the site - when the first letter was received? If yes, it could be some crazy guy - and we know they exist, see the case of mr Antonio Toscano . If the name of the site was not revealad at the time first letter was received, I'm very, very pesimist...

Is the letter sender a part of an eurpean wide operating child abuse ring? Who else can have such significant informations concerning the whereabouts of missing children?

What do you mean Paulo?

What do you think about this info I found on a blog
http://zoltanzion.blogspot.com/2007/06/madeleine-mccann-update-36.html

Portuguese police are interviewing two Dutch newspaper reporters who have found a towel in the area identified as the possible burial location of four-year-old British girl Madeleine McCann in a tip-off from a Dutch source.

Wrapped in towels
According to their newspaper De Telegraaf, another tip-off has come in from a different source claiming that a man was seen carrying a child wrapped in towels near the place where Madeleine disappeared. Five Portuguese detectives accompanied the Dutch reporters to the spot where they found the towel, followed by a Portuguese TV camera crew.

Paulo, youre right. If the original letter was well publicised in Holland, then this could be a hoaxer ... if not, then things don't look good.

If something is found at or near the site, i'd expect an arrest very quickly. Three murders in two different countries (Belgium, Portugal) would be linked, plus there is a common link with Holland. And it would be the same killer in all cases.

Movements of suspects in the Belgium case could be cross-checked with airline records; residents at Ocean club likewise. It would mean the killer had somehow targeted Madeleine - the chances of a serial killer child abductor stumbling on a wandering child in a different country are just too remote. Would this mean he had been an Ocean resident during the McCann stay?

Also, he would be very familiar with the terrain in Portugal. If the towel link is accurate, then its looking as if the case is coming near a close.

i've never come across such an incredible case before - letters to the press on two different cases giving locations in two different countries, when the killer would know every contact brings the cops closer to him. And yet killers have often proved themselves to be egomaniacs in just this way.

Let's hope it's a hoax.

Hello again
Are you aware of any results yet of the second DNA for Robert Murat? Its gone very quiet on that front. Glad the search near the resort found nothing sinister.
Thanks

Paulo:

Would you please comment on the report that when Kate McCann returned to the apartment to check on the children she ran screaming back to her husband yelling "they've taken her". Can you tell us if she had the twins with her? Did she leave the twins? This is a question my group discussion would really like an answer to. We cannot find much detail in the reports.

Thanks, in advance.

re when mccann's returned to apartment.

did kate return alone? did she run out to the tapas bar? did she shout 'they've taken her'? who did she mean? were the shutters 'jemmied' as gerry said? were the doors 'hanging off their hinges' as gerry said? which of the parents saw maddie last? at what time? why did it take so long to call the police if it was so obvious she had been abducted? who are the other 9(?) adults on the trip to portugal? why have their identities been concealed? who else was in the apartment that night to 'contaminate' evidence, as police say? who were the friends and relations? how many?

so many questions

what can you be up to???

Paulo,

I am really getting the feeling that something's up. Your asking about the cities close to LEICESTER and Gerry flying back to the area today (with virtually no media attention). I have read that Antonio Toscano wants to meet with the McCanns in person. I see where Correio da Manhã is reporting that the police are also talking with Mr. Toscano. Is something about to break?

About Mr. Toscano and what Correio da Manhã says, don't believe a word. In both cases! Toscano got in touch with McCann family's press adviser, Clarence Mitchell. Take a look on what she said, to British Press, about the dialogues she had with the so-called "investigative journalist":

http://gazetadigitalmadeleineandthemedia.blogspot.com/2007/06/why-mr-antnio-toscano-is-hoaxer.html

About that story of Correio da Manha, I can tell you that this daily will be at a proemint place in a post I'm preparing with the tittle: "Top Ten PGP (Portuguese Gutter Press)in Madeleine's abduction coverage"
