Cashing in on Madeleine's name: Fund managers asked for trademark registration

The brand name “Madeleine’s Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned” will be a commercial brand, protected by law, soon. The managers of the campaign to find Madeleine have applied with the European Community Trademark Registration to protect the name “Madeleine’s Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned”. The request filled also asks for that trademark to be registered for social services providers and advising in cases of missing children. The registration of Madeleine's trademark was requested on May 18, fifteen days after Madeleine McCann disappeared from her room, at the Ocean Club resort, in Praia da Luz, Algarve.

That's odd.

seeing as the only person yet convicted for fruadulantly trying to cash in managed to collect only £2.70.

Please remove the "abduction" from the title as there is no evidence of abduction. Perhaps "disappearance" instead.

Thank you for remembering me of that. I did it, already.

I see from Companies House UK web page that their Madeleine company (Company No. 06248215)
was registered on May 15th 2007, less than 2 weeks after the child's disappearance. That's rather quick isn't it?
This is beginning to look like a premeditated crime.

Whenever you involve lawyers, and the McCanns know a lot of them, this is what lawyers do: get busy filing papers. This kind of thing would be normal in the US. Although we have a highly lawyerized/litigious society here. I can't speak for the UK, but I believe it is not that different from the US situation.

Securing this as a trademark early on was to prevent other, competing funds, from being created with the same or even just a *similar* name. It sounds like a way to protect the public, not the McCanns.

Seriously, MC and Paulo. "Ups" is a bullshit reaction. Before presenting this as some kind of "proof" of the parents' character, do some research first.

Most nonprofit organizations are trademarked. EXAMPLES: the Red Cross, Save the Children, etc.

The information you have posted is not a clue to anything, except your own ignorance of trademark laws.

If you have no real clues to give, Paulo, don't present meaningless details like this as some kind of "proof". I expect better from you!

Do you still have in mind that you are dealing with the life or the memory of a small child of 4.
Try to keep that in mind!

Sky news has just reported that the Potugese legal system is "slow" on a Saturday evening ! In the UK cases can take years to get to trial. Think the McCanns have a link with Sky ?

Can I accuse you of being ignorant because madeleine's fund is a LTD company and not a charity??
