He's not even a Scot. He is an Irish immigrant from Donegal.

Do remind me: what is Gerry McCann's contribution to society?

This is laughable, but it just goes to show you how many well-placed friends this guy has. If Gordon Brown can maintain power and Gerry and his wife escape their predicament, don’t be surprised if he becomes a member of the government. It baffles me how passionate some people are about this couple. Some people consider it blasphemous to even suspect or investigate these two. The next thing you know someone will claim a miracle through the intervention of the McCann, and they’ll be up for sainthood.

Disgusting. An insult to decency. Guilty or not, they are suspects.

I really think the press is taking a jab at him.

Does anyone care about Scot of the Year? It's absolutely ridiculous.

I have not gone in for the wider conspiracy theories in McCann case but this type of thing makes me wonder! The award is for someone who has inspired us this year and I suppose all the child neglectors will vote for him.

Child Focus, or the European Center for Missing and Sexually Exploited Children, was founded in 1998 by Daniel Cardon de Lichtbuer and headed by this person ever since. In 2005, de Lichtbuer became chairman of the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (ICMEC), headquartered in Washington and founded in 1999.

Maybe leaving helpless children without a sitter is proper Scottish behavior? Maybe abusing children is also indicative of a good Scotsman? Or maybe having a working class background but still managing to attract wealthy powerful high level connections and government and media friends is what the Scottish value? Or maybe it's considered exemplary behavior of a Scotsman to prostitute his missing daughter and to make a lucrative living off of her?

I'm not Scottish so I am not sure why he should be nominated for this award. Maybe a Scottish person could explain his nomination and how his personality and actions are what make the Scottish proud?

In the meantime, I will continue to read British press' unbiased and excellent reporting on the search for Madeleine. Along with the superb British press' very insightful non-prejudicial sound reasons for why they (the British) are superior to the Portuguese in every way.

I wonder:

Have Met police solved the Thames Torso murder case? Or are they still hunting for Nigerian witch doctors in London?

Have the Liverpool police arrested Rhys Jones' murderer and gone to trial?

And how's the Diana inquest going?

Oh those perfect respectable exemplary and polite British. Too bad they no longer rule the world. All crimes would be solved in a matter of days and leaving ones children without supervision so that you can go out drinking would be the accepted norm around the world.
