Amaral is looking for a British lawyer

The former PJ investigator's legal representative has contacted two British lawyers, to launch a libel suit against several British newspapers. The first lawyer contacted accepted to represent Mr. Gonçalo Amaral but, two weeks after, changed his mind. The same happened with a second lawyer. “I don't know what is going on, over there, but I'm convinced this is not a problem of Democracy. United Kingdom is a democratic country, with democratic laws, so everybody should have its rights (to a legal defence). I don't understand what's going on”, Mr. Amaral told to Lusa News Agency.

I think I do, Mr Amaral...

I think if we check up on the state of democracy in the U.K. we might find it is an historical fact rather than a present reality.

I wonder if it is a question of payment. If the first lawyer has reviewed the position and considers there is limited chance of success then he/she might reconsider.

The limited chance of succeeding has nothing to do with determining whether libel occurred or not, there were libelous statements made on more than one paper. He was referred to, among other things as lazy, a drunk, incompetent, as having ignored leads in the investigation, etc..

Guerra - of course you are right. It was/is a disgrace the way this man has been portrayed in British Media. An utter disgrace and I hope he sues the lot of them - including the McCanns. I'm sick to death hearing about how righteous the McCanns are, when clearly they are not.
Mr Amaral has my full support.
