“The Truth of the Lie” - Madeleine's daily routine (*)

From April 29, the second day of holidays, Madeleine and the twins followed a precise routine. In the morning, around nine o'clock, after breakfast, she is taken to the crèche in the building where the main reception is located. Amelie and Sean go to another crèche, for younger children, near the “Tapas” restaurant. Gerry and Kate spend the morning playing tennis of jogging in the beach.

Around 12h30, Gerry and Kate pick up the three kids, for lunch, and after, take them back to the crèche, where they stay, from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Sometimes, the children had diner with the nannies, near “Tapas”.

At night, another “relaxing ritual” starts, between 7:30 and 8:30 pm: after putting the kids in bed, Gerry and Kate take a bath and sit down, having a glass of New Zealand wine. Then, they go for the “Tapas”, leaving the children asleep in the apartment, to meet the friends. Diner starts around 8:30 pm and finishes around 11:00 pm.

On Tuesday, May 1, a small change in the routine: after lunch, around 1:30 pm, the McCann take their children to the beach, but weather changes and they only stay there for 20 minutes. Before going back to the crèche, it seems she had an ice-cream at a beach bar. At 3:30, nannies take all the children from both crèches to the beach, again, where they stay until 4:30 pm.

That night, on the “Tapas” reservations book, one of the employees reserved a table for the McCann and friends and wrote also a note, referring that some of those clients went out, a few times, during diner, to check on their kids that were left at the apartments.

That was the same night when Madeleine cried for one hour and 15 minutes, calling for his father. She only stopped when they came back from the restaurant.

Wednesday morning Madeleine asks her parents why didn't they came to help her, the night before, while she was crying. On that afternoon, Madeleine goes back to the beach, with the nannies, between 3:30 and 4:30. The night routine is unchanged.

Thursday, May 3, it's Gerry who takes Madeleine to the crèche, at 9:10 am. She goes again to the beach, between 10:30 and 11:00 am. At 12:45, it's Kate who goes to the crèche, to take Madeleine for lunch. She's back at 2:50 pm and it's also Kate who, after jogging in the beach, brings the three children back to the apartment, at 5:30 pm.

Thank you, Paulo...

The May 2nd death scenario theory is totally out of the picture.

I wonder if Madeleine was acting up all that day around Kate. Amaral doesn't talk about any witnesses who seen her that day, does he? Any that could comment on whether she was happily going along with Kate and Gerry, back and forth to the creche or alternatively dragging her heels and putting up a fight? It sounds like the McCann's were more interested in pursuing their bliss and the mother/daughter relationship as reported by Mrs. Fenn was already strained. I wonder if Maddie put up a fight that day...and Kate snapped as soon as she was behind closed doors with her.

Thank you, again, for your time and energy in translating. Much appreciated.

This is just a side comment but one I can't resist: who ever heard of ANYONE going to Portugal and having New Zealand wine to relax?

Err why does that not correspond with the PJ leaked files?

There is a difference in times....PJ say 5:30 pick from creche and this say 5:00.

Is someone saying that the PJ are liars or have made an error?

Paulo,
Thank you very much for posting these summaries. The Spanish translation is already in Esplendor de la Forma.
Take care,

Unbelievable, they treat their kids like a car they park them in the creche. If they knew they were going to spend so little time with their kids, why didn't they leave their kids with their grandparents in England? My dog was treated many times better than these kids. And these are the people that politicians want as ambassadors for child welfare causes.
