“Cleaning” Mr. Martin Smith statement?

British Media, in a frenzy with one more suspect, quoted a statement from Mr. Martin Smith, a witness in Madeleine McCann case who saw a man carrying a child, in that night. But they forget to quote the most important, as usual. This is what Mr. Martin Smith told police, in Portugal and, later, in Ireland:

I saw Gerard McCann (sic) going down the plane stairs carrying one of his children on 9th September 2007 BBC news at 10 PM, I have been shown the video clip by Sergeant Hogan which I recognise. A clip I have seen before on the Internet. In relation to the video clips of Gerard McCann and the person I saw on 3rd May 2007 when I saw the BBC news at 10 PM on 9th September 2007 something struck me that it could have been the same person. It was the way Gerard McCann turned his head down which was similar to what the individual did on 3rd May 2007 when we met him. It may have been the way he was carrying the child either. I would be 60-80% sure that it was Gerard McCann that I met that night carrying a child.”

This is what British newspapers are quoting:

Daily Express: “Jane Tanner, one of the McCanns’ holiday friends, spotted a man carrying a blonde child away from the apartment shortly after 9.15pm on May 3, 2007. And Martin Smith, a holidaymaker from Ireland, and 11 members of his family also saw a man carrying a sleeping child dressed in pink pyjamas at 9.40pm.”

Belfast Telegraph: “Mr Smith, from Drogheda , was also on holiday in Praia da Luz at the time. At about 9.50pm on May 3 he and his family were walking up a road less than half a mile from the McCanns’ apartment when he saw a man carrying a blonde girl of about four. Mr Smith said in his police statement: “I thought they were father and daughter so I wasn’t so suspicious... The man didn’t look like a tourist. I can’t explain why — it was probably from his clothes.”

Mr Smith was the only one to think it was Garald McCann, his wife and son did not recognise Gerry, and in his 1st statement, he said the man caarying the child did not seem to be a tourist, yet, Gerald McCann was a toursit actually. I think Mr Smith should have been questionned again by the PJ to clarify his sayings.

Yes it is very interesting that Martin Smith is from the same smallish port town, Drogheda in Ireland that the owner of the Estela da Luz is from - Mr Gerry Fagan.

His son Peter Smith says he knew nothing about the child's disappearance until the morning of May 4th at Faro Airport. In his Police Statement he says that an acquaintance of the Smith family - who was the son of the man who built the Estela da Luz complex - told him about it. He was heading out of Portugal too on that morning (Ines misses this detail out in her translation, surprisngly)

Martin Smith - retired at 58! - goes to the Estela da Luz apartment he owns
at least three times a year - according to his son Peter Smith.

So let's get this straight:

On May 26th after Murat becomes an arguido, Martin Smith who says he has met Murat on a few occasions in the past - gives statement to Police saying the man carryin the child is definitely NOT Murat.

Amaral says that the CCTV footage from the Estela da Luz apartments was wiped before he could get it.

Amaral says it is likely the Estela cctv footage would have had the man carrying the child on.

Smith is from the same town in Ireland as the Estela owner.

His son says he knows the son of the Estela builder - and that he was at the airport on May 4th.

Martin Smith in September 2007 - suddenly realises that the man he saw was Gerry McCann.

Lots of drugs busts associated with the Irish Mafia in Drugheda in recent years. Usually fund IRA activity.

IRA busts along the coast in the Algarve too.

Makes you wonder what's going on.

Drug and arms running?

These people always divide when trouble brews. Even the McCanns and the Murats.

The spooks in Portugal have selective hearing too, paulo?

Does Martin like a round of golf or two?

Not printing all comments?

Makes you look like you have something to hide, son.

Keep moving Paulo. Stay safe.
